If you’ve been struggling with dry skin for a while now, you’ve come to the right place. Here at Lionesse, we totally understand the frustration that can come from dealing with the flaky, itchy, and rough patches of skin that seem to appear from out of nowhere.

Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. We’ve put together this 6-step face care routine. Follow it daily and your dry skin will soon look soft, smooth, and supple.

Step 1: Cleanse Your Face

Lionesse cleanser

The very first step to any face care routine should always be cleansing. After all, if you don’t remove the dirt, oil, and dead skin cells that have all settled onto the surface of your skin since the last time you cleansed, how else will the rest of your face care products be properly absorbed?

It’s true that many cleansers have a bad rep of drying the skin out even more. However, there are also many formulas out there that gently lift impurities without stripping the skin of its protective oils.

Case in point: the Lionesse White Pearl Facial Cleanser. Rather than leaving your face dry and tight, this cleanser will have your skin feeling refreshed and revived. Its cleansing agents are coconut-derived, which are so much gentler than chemical alternatives. However, they’re just as effective at removing all of that grime.

Our cleanser is also infused with several other ingredients that dry skin will love. Aloe is known for its super hydrating properties, calendula soothes the feeling of inflamed skin, argan oil moisturizes the skin, and chamomile leaves the skin feeling protected. It’s really everything that you could want in a cleanser…plus so much more!

Step 2: Apply a Toner

Cleansing kit

Toning is considered to be an optional step when it comes to the average daily face care routine. However, since you’re trying to replenish dry skin, it’s a must.

That said, not any toner will do. Many of the toners out there are filled with harmful alcohols that may feel pleasant at first, but soon leave the skin drier than ever.

Instead, you need a toner that will help your skin to feel rebalanced and re-hydrated after cleansing. For this, we’d recommend the Lionesse White Pearl Skin Toner.

There are several skin-loving botanical extracts in this formula. Each one has been chosen for how it relaxes, hydrates, and restores the feel of the skin. From cucumber to chamomile to aloe vera, this blend is a classic. What makes it even better? No alcohols in sight!

Step 3: Pamper Your Eye Area

Eye serum

It’s so important to not forget about your eye area when it comes to your daily face care routine. The skin in this area is much thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. It also contains fewer oil glands, meaning that it’s more prone to dryness, as well as wrinkling. This is why the visible signs of aging often show up around the eyes before you notice them anywhere else on your face.

Unfortunately, people with dry skin are likely to notice those visible signs of aging before those with normal or oily skin types. So, tackle things head-on by incorporating an eye care product into your face care routine.

Should you use an eye cream or an eye serum?

It all comes down to the ingredients in those formulas. Creams are hailed for being the best when it comes to moisturizing the skin, but serums are able to penetrate deeper into the skin, bringing about bigger changes to the appearance.

You could always use both, but if you only want to invest in one, our recommendation would be to go with a high-powered eye serum when it comes to your daily face care routine. One of our favorite formulas is the Lionesse Amber Eye Serum.

It feels lightweight when applied but it’s actually incredibly hydrating. This is thanks to its rich blend of peptides, sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, and plant extracts.

Step 4: Layer on a Couple of Face Serums

Some people skip the serum step completely in their face care routines, while others go all out and apply three or four different serums.

For dry skin, we’d recommend going with two serums. This will allow you to give your skin that extra bit of love compared to if you were just using one. However, it won’t overload your skin with too many ingredients. This would risk drying it out even more, and we don’t want that!

Which Face Care Serums Should You Be Using for Dry Skin?

Vitamin C Serum

One thing that just about every dermatologist would agree with is that a vitamin C serum is a must-have in any face care routine, and that includes a routine for dry skin.

Our offering? The Lavelier White Pearl Vitamin C Serum. Many vitamin C serums contain just one form of vitamin C, but we’ve included two. Together, they bring double the power when it comes to how they can make your skin look brighter, tighter, and smoother.

You’ll also notice a few other special ingredients in this serum. We’ve added both mica and pearl powder to this formula to give the skin an instant glow. We’ve also infused it with orange peel oil, which is a natural source of vitamin C.

The second face care serum we’d recommend using is the Black Onyx Serum. It’ll tackle the feeling of roughness that dry skin often comes with.

How? It all comes down to its unique ingredient blend. Lactic acid, a gentle alpha hydroxy acid, is present to remove those old and dry dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. It’ll leave your complexion looking so much softer and more radiant.

We’ve also included sodium hyaluronate. The salt form of hyaluronic acid, this humectant is known for its incredible hydrating properties. It plumps and brightens the look of the skin, and is a compound that dry skin adores.

There are also a few ingredients in this serum to tackle the visible signs of aging that often appear on dry skin. From DMAE to smooth away the look of fine lines and wrinkles to vitamin A to give your skin a firmer finish, this serum does it all.

Step 5: Slather on a Moisturizer (or Two!)

One of the most important steps in a face care routine for dry skin is applying a moisturizer. This is a product that seals moisture into your skin, preventing it from feeling dry and flaky.

A good moisturizer will also infuse extra moisture into your complexion at the same time, giving it a refreshed, plump, and radiant look.

While there’s nothing wrong with using the same moisturizer day and night, we’d recommend investing in two. Go for a lightweight cream for daytime use. After all, you don’t want your face to feel weighed down or greasy, especially with SPF and makeup over the top. However, at night, indulge in something richer and thicker. Dry skin desperately needs this, and your night time face care routine is the perfect way to give your skin some extra TLC.

Is your skin severely dry?

If so, one moisturizer may not be enough. There’s nothing wrong with layering a second moisturizer over the top, even if you only use this as a spot treatment on severely dry patches.

Which moisturizers should you be using?

Here’s what we’d pick:

Day Moisturizers

Face care cream

There are two Lionesse moisturizers that we absolutely love for daytime use. The first is the White Pearl Day Moisturizer. This moisturizing formula has been infused with pearl powder, an ingredient that gives the appearance an instant luminosity. It’s ideal for starting your day with a glow!

Alternatively, if you’d like to combat the visible signs of skin aging while also leaving your skin feeling protected during the day, turn to the Black Onyx Cream. This lightweight moisturizer is loaded with potent ingredients. Vitamins A, C, and E join forces with sodium hyaluronate and several plant extracts to give your skin everything that it needs as the day wears on.

Night Moisturizers

We designed our White Pearl Night Cream specifically for evening use. With shea butter as its base, this moisturizer feels decadently soothing. It fortifies the feel of your skin while you sleep, ensuring that you wake up to a soft and glowy complexion.

Alternatively, for a moisturizer that will make your skin look smoother and firmer, try the Golden Sapphire Cream. This formula is brimming with a multi-peptide blend. Peptides are highly recommended for dry skin because of how they increase moisture levels and strengthen the feel of the skin’s barrier.

Step 6: Apply Sun Protection

If you’re following this face care routine during the day, then SPF is non-negotiable.

The sun’s UV rays spell disaster for your skin. We’re not being dramatic – they really do cause so much damage. Not only can they lead to skin cancer, but sun exposure also causes 80% of those fine lines and wrinkles that you see on your skin. Dark spots are down to sun damage too, as is loose and sagging skin.

So, no matter your skin type, SPF is a must in your face care routine. If your skin is both dry and sensitive, then SPF 40-50 would be best for you. However, if your skin is just dry, then something lower, such as SPF 30, would suffice.

Either way, the most important thing to remember is that your SPF needs to be consistently reapplied throughout the day. There’s no point applying it in the morning and then forgetting about it until the next day – it’ll wear off in a couple of hours and leave your skin unprotected. So, set reminders on your phone if you need to or stick post-it notes around your garden – either way, keep your skin protected, no matter the time of year.

Other Face Care Tips for Dry Skin

Lionesse Facial Peeling

In addition to following the above face care routine, there are other things that you can do to put a stop to that dryness:

  • Don’t use hot water on your skin. This will dry it out even further by stripping away your natural protective barrier
  • Exfoliate a couple of times a week, but don’t use an exfoliant that’s too harsh. Give the White Pearl Facial Peeling a try. It’s a gentle but effective way to remove those rough and dry skin cells
  • Treat your skin to a face mask every week or so. The Diamond Rejuvenation Facial and Eye Mask will leave your face looking beautifully radiant
  • Apply your moisturizer to damp, rather than dry, skin. This allows it to trap in all of those excess water molecules, which gives the skin an even fresher feel
  • If your skin seems to dry out even more at night, try setting a humidifier up in your bedroom

Conclusion

Replenishing the feel of dry skin is easy when you have Lionesse by your side! Follow the face care routine above and it’ll be a matter of days before you notice your skin starting to feel softer and smoother.
