Have you ever purchased a skincare product online only to find out that it doesn’t suit your skin? Whether it has been formulated for a different skin type or it contains a range of common irritants, it’s so easy to fall for clever marketing claims, only to later discover that the product you’ve parted with your hard earned cash for is a dud.

Fortunately, more and more people are now realizing that there’s an easy way to avoid this issue. Want to know what it is? It’s simple…

Reading a product’s ingredient list. From the ingredient list alone, you can tell so much about a product. This then increases your odds of purchasing one that actually has the ability to transform your appearance.

Today, Lionesse is going to take you through some of the ingredients in our exquisite White Pearl Collection. We’ll explain what each one is designed to do, who it’s best suited for, and whether or not you actually need it.

Pearl Powder

Pearl powder

You’ll find pearl powder in all of the products in our White Pearl Collection – it’s the collection’s signature ingredient.

Now, there are plenty of doubters out there who say that pearl powder is nothing but a bit of hype, but that’s where they’re wrong. This isn’t a “trendy” ingredient in the slightest. Pearl powder is a well-known component of traditional Chinese medicine – it has been used since ancient times. The Chinese have long since revered it for how it can beautify the complexion, and our White Pearl Collection hinges on those properties.

What exactly does pearl powder do for the skin?

Several things, such as reducing the appearance of your pores. It also evens out the look of your skin tone and improves the appearance of your skin’s texture. Even better, thanks to its light-reflecting properties, it gives the skin an instant luminous glow.

Shea Butter

Shea butter from the White Pearl Collection

Shea butter is a fat that comes from the nuts of the African shea tree. It’s a natural ingredient and is one that is loved by the skincare world.

Why?

Because of its emollient properties. It’s able to intensely soften and smooth the feel of the skin, while boosting skin moisture. It also soothes the appearance of inflammation while containing antioxidants that help to fight the visibility of skin aging.

It’s an all-rounder that’s safe for all skin types. It’s non-comedogenic, so won’t clog pores in oily skin, and it also doesn’t contain any known irritants, making it good for dry and sensitive skin types too.

You’ll find shea butter in several products in the White Pearl Collection. However, one of our favorite shea butter infusions is the White Pearl Collection Body Butter.

This rich and decadent blend feels oh-so-satisfying when applied to the skin. Slather a thick layer on if you have dry skin or go with a thin layer for oilier skin types. Either way, your skin will feel noticeably softer once this product has soaked in.

Glycerin

Glycerin

While shea butter may be good for providing rich moisture, glycerin is on the other end of the spectrum. It’s still incredibly hydrating, yet it’s also very lightweight.

This is because, unlike shea butter, which is an emollient, glycerin is classed as a humectant. This means that it has moisture-binding properties that enable it to hydrate and plump up the look of your skin cells. This gives the complexion an instant glow.

Isn’t hyaluronic a better humectant than glycerin?

Definitely not! For some reason, hyaluronic acid has a fair bit of hype around it, even though studies have proven glycerin to be the most effective humectant out there. This is not only in comparison to hyaluronic acid, but also when it comes to urea, sorbitol, and alpha-hydroxy acids.

Like shea butter, glycerin is another ingredient that’s suitable for all skin types. This is why we’ve added it to several products in our White Pearl Collection. If you’d like your body to benefit from the wonders of glycerin, try the White Pearl Collection Body Cream.

Lighter in texture than our Body Butter, this formula is packed with glycerin to leave your skin feeling refreshed and hydrated.

Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)

Vitamin C

Chances are that you’re well aware of all of the different benefits that vitamin C brings to the skin. It’s a powerful antioxidant, it brightens the look of the skin tone, it evens out a rough-feeling texture, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles…the list really does go on!

It’s an ingredient that just about every dermatologist would recommend, usually in serum form. This way, your skin is treated to a high concentration of the ingredient, so long as you choose a good serum, that is! Since there are so many different forms of vitamin C, this is sometimes easier said than done…

Most people are immediately attracted to ascorbic acid. After all, this is the purest form of vitamin C, so doesn’t that mean that it’s the best?

Unfortunately, no, things aren’t quite so simple. Although pure, ascorbic acid is also very unstable. It degrades quickly in skincare products, and its potency can also lead to unwanted side effects.

Fortunately, there are better alternatives out there. For our White Pearl Vitamin C Serum, we went with Ethyl Ascorbic Acid instead. It’s often referred to as the new generation of vitamin C.

Why?

Because it’s so much more effective when it comes to firming and tightening the complexion, as well as brightening the look of dark spots. It’s also highly stable, making it ideal for use in innovative skincare formulas, like those in the White Pearl Collection!

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is another classic. Just like pearl powder, it has been used since ancient times, and there’s no denying how powerful it can be when it comes to skincare.

We’ve incorporated aloe vera into a few of the products in the White Pearl Collection. Here at Lionesse, we love how it deeply hydrates the skin. It has humectant properties, making it a great supporting act to glycerin.

However, aloe vera is also packed with enzymes that help to firm and smoothen the appearance. It’s well worth using if you’re trying to mitigate the visible signs of aging on your face.

That said, if you regularly deal with redness, be it from acne or other sensitivities, you’ll love aloe vera too. It contains a compound called aloin that effectively soothes the look of redness and inflammation, leaving the skin feeling calm and refreshed.

Considering its benefits, one of the best steps in your skincare routine to make the most of aloe vera would be with your toner. Toners are ideal for rebalancing and refreshing the feel of the skin after cleansing, and this is what aloe vera is revered for too.

For this reason, you’ll find aloe leaf juice in the White Pearl Facial Toner. It’s the second main ingredient in this formula, meaning that it has been used in a high concentration. As a result, you can expect this toner to feel ultra soothing – the perfect way to prep your skin for the rest of your skincare routine!

Moringa Seed Oil

Moringa seed oil

While many of the ingredients that we’ve featured so far may already be familiar to you, chances are that you don’t know too much about moringa seed oil. Native to India, moringa is a fast-growing plant that’s loved for its wide range of beneficial properties.

When it comes to skincare, its oil is revered for its fatty acid content. 40% of it consists of monounsaturated fatty acids, with 70% of that consisting of oleic acid.

This makes moringa seed oil a superstar at cleansing and purifying the feel of the skin, while also rebalancing how oily the skin feels. It also helps to diminish the visible signs of aging, particularly fine lines and wrinkles. Even better, you can also use it to leave your skin feeling protected against the daily effects of pollution!

In the Lionesse White Pearl Collection, you’ll find moringa seed oil in the White Pearl Facial Cleanser. As we mentioned, moringa gives the skin a purified sensation, making it well-suited for a cleanser.

We have also formulated this cleanser with several other natural ingredients too. You won’t find any harsh surfactants in this blend either. The cleansing agents that we’ve used are derived from coconuts, which are far gentler on the skin. Rather than stripping the skin and leaving it bare and vulnerable, this cleanser gently lifts impurities while keeping the skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)

Vitamin E

Although it may not be as talked about as vitamin C or vitamin A, vitamin E is just as worthy. Like the other two, it’s an antioxidant, and it works in the background to give your skin a healthy-looking glow.

It’s a great ingredient for minimizing the visible signs of aging. This includes the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and loose skin.

It may not offer up instant effects, but, in the long-term, it can really improve your appearance.

For this reason, we’ve added tocopheryl acetate, the purest form of vitamin E, to our White Pearl Day Moisturizer. This product is designed to be used daily, which enables your skin to benefit from the long-term effects of vitamin E.

It’s a lightweight cream that’ll leave your skin looking hydrated and glowy for the day without leaving it feeling weighed down.

In addition to vitamin E, this day cream also contains a few of the other ingredients that we’ve already mentioned, including shea butter, glycerin, and pearl powder.

Sea Salt

Sea salt

You may not have expected to see sea salt on this list, but we’ve tried to include natural ingredients in our White Pearl Collection as much as possible. And, when it comes to ingredients from the sea, sea salt is one of the best offerings available.

What makes sea salt so great?

It’s composed of a huge array of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Even better, its texture is rough enough to gently exfoliate the skin and dislodge dead skin cells, without being so overly abrasive that it tears at the skin and causes damage.

This is why the Body Scrub in our White Pearl Collection is based on the power of sea salt. It’s a simple formula that only contains a few ingredients – we decided to let sea salt shine in this one, and it really does.

Use this scrub regularly and you’ll notice that your skin soon takes on a brighter and more radiant appearance.
